Whale Watching

Koholā (humpback whales) have been visiting Hawaii since the ancient Polynesian era. The warm, clear water and shallow ocean shelves around Maui make it a favorite mating location, so from December to March, the astonishingly graceful koholā can be seen swimming and breaking in the waters surrounding the islands. One of the most common breach-sighting locations can be found between Māʻalaea and Lahaina on Highway 30, but since Maui is one of the best islands from which to see whale activity, residents of the Wailea Hills Collection can enjoy the action from either the shoreline or their own lanai.
